Oral Health Educators in practice

Former students Julie and Lynn talk about their work in oral health education

Julie and Lyn, who work at the Paulton Dental Practice near Bristol, qualified as OHEs with Ohe-southwest. Below, Julie talks about their work with the community in the village of Paulton - where they are putting their skills and knowledge to good use.

"Lynn and I have visited our village playgroups, talking about caring for teeth, as well as our local junior school, where we spoke to all 7 classes in turn about caring for their smile. We think we must have disclosed nearly 300 children in one month and Bristol Water are probably wondering why their water is turning blue!

"We have also carried out initiatives during National Smile Month. Children have been decorating egg cups in the waiting room and we have been giving away bottles of water, cheese and fruit. The Dairy Council sent us loads of free cheese and CTS kindly supplied us with free water. We had a competition to design a healthy lunchbox and have had two articles published in the local paper about us.

"It has been great fun and we are thinking about painting a picture of a smiley tooth on the side of Julie's jeep for when we are out and about."

Keep up the good work.

Julie and Lynn
